How we achieve our objectives
By providing well-organised courses which are graded to suit the needs of our students -
The Bunchúrsa prepares primary school children for second level education. The Meánchúrsa caters for students who are more proficient in the language, especially those preparing for the Junior Certificate. The Ardchúrsa caters for senior honours' students.
Our courses are fully recognised by the Department of Education, Roinn na Gaeltachta and the national governing body of approved Summer Colleges.
An experienced staff of dedicated teachers, some who are especially gifted at Music, Song, Dance, Art, Games etc. are employed by the Coláiste. In addition cúntóirí and cinnirí are specially trained to assist during the summer months. A certificate will be awarded to those who complete the course and make good progress in Irish.A written report on each student’s progress during the course will be given to parents.
Tá an Ghaeilge beo agus láidir ar Árainn. Three weeks of living in an environment where Irish is the first language of the people deepens a young person's appreciation of what it means to be able to converse fluently in our native tongue.
Árainn was home to the celebrated writers Liam Ó Flaithearta, Breandán Ó hEithir and Máirtín Ó Direáin. Students are shown where these writers lived and are invited to join in project work about them. Students visit the many sites of archeological and historical interest on the island - Dún Aonghasa, Dún Dubhchathair, Clochán na Carraige, Teampall Chiaráin, Teampall Éinne, etc. Students also visit the seashore to collect and examine pebbles, shells, sea-weeds and flora.
